Asymmetrical swelling of the feet

OnlyNow33 posted:
Hello! I am 38 and in my 22nd week. My feet started swelling last week, some days more than others, and some days not at all.

Today they are swelling already (I've only been out of bed for 4.5 hours) and my left foot is notably more swollen than the right.

Should this be concerning me as much as it is and should I call my doctor? I don't know if this is normal or not. (This is my 3rd child, but it's been more than 12 years since the last time I was pregnant and all of the talk about being high risk because of "Advanced age" has me a little uneasy).

Thanks.

Robert O Atlas, MD responded:
The real question is are your legs swollen as well? It is very common for women to have swelling during pregnancy.

The biggest thing we worry about is you potentially having a blood clot in your leg. It is more common in the left leg. If it is just the feet, then it probably is fine.

I would recommend you check with your healthcare provider.
