My niece is pregnant with her first child and is due in 12 days. She has been having contractions 2 to 3 minutes apart for the week. When she goes to the hospital her doctor is giving her shots to stop the contractions can this hurt her baby or can any other problems arise for the baby? Also, when she went in last night they sent her home on medicines to keep the contractions at bay is this normal or should she worry? Please help.

Why are they stopping the contractions? At 38 weeks, the baby is considered full-term and can usually be born without complications.
