Spotting is common in early pregnancy and usually nothing to be worried about. It's only a problem if it becomes heavy bleeding and/or is accompanied by severe cramps.

Hi mommy25yrs,

Bleeding during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, is more common than you might think and is usually no cause for alarm according to this article . However, it can sometimes signal a more serious problem (many are outlined in the link above). Do you have any additional symptoms such as cramping or pain in the lower abdomen? Getting this checked out by your OBGYN as soon as possible is a good idea to make sure that you and your baby are healthy. When is your appointment?

Best wishes,
Atti

I just found out about 3 days ago that I'm pregnant. I am 46 yrs old and it is my first pregnancy. I did the blood works and came out positive. My vitamin input are good. But I noticed today that I was bleeding little. Is not a period bleeding but more less like a dry bleeding. Is not as red as a normal period. I called my doctor and told me this was very common in many women. But if there was heavy bleeding I need to go to the triage and have me checked out. Pregnant at 46 yrs old and not knowing what to do as the first timer....go figure! I need some input as well from all the experienced mother out there. Thank you....

Hi atti_editor,

I had a miscarriage on May 4th. It was an early pregnancy. I have a doctor appt tomorrow. The baby was growing outside of the uterus in the fallopian tube. He says is best that this happens now and not later because it could be worst later on. So, I just have to follow up and continue.

I am very sorry for your loss, Andrea. Your doctor is absolutely right that a baby growing in the fallopian tube (an ectopic pregnancy ) can be extremely harmful to your health. If you need any support or information, we are here for you!

Best wishes,
Atti
