    When to tell the family?
    kstategrad07 posted:
I am 7 weeks today. I had my first doc appointment yesterday, but it seemed like such a waste. I just met with the nurse and they did blood work. That's about it. I go back next Wednesday and they will do a vaginal ultrasound. I am really wanting to tell our parents because it is so hard for me to keep this from my mom because we are so close and are together at least once a week! And I even had to lie to her today when she asked if I was PG. But DH thinks we should wait till we know for sure. I've had 3 positives hpt's, and missed my period, isn't that for sure?

I know we told sooner when I was pg with DS, but since I had had 2 MCs (at 4-5 weeks) we were seeing a specialist and had ultrasounds done multiple times early on. I'm not wanting to tell the whole world, like on FB or something, just our parents! I so want someone to talk to about it!

What do you ladies think? Have you told your family yet?

I wasn't going to tell my mom I was pregnant for a couple of months, but that had more to do with her reaction to the fact that i'm not married. I grew up in a very religious back ground that frowns on premarital sex. My mom and I are pretty close as well so not telling her was too stressful for me so I broke down and told her. I was surprised by how supportive she's been. If my calculations are correct i'm only about 5-6 weeks.

As for the rest of my family I'm going to wait a while just because of the risk of MC.

Whether or not you tell your mother you are pregnant is up to you. For me it was too much stress to keep it to myself and I made my mom promise not to tell anyone else.

I told my parents right away with both pregnancies along with close family and one or two close friends. I waited to tell co-workers and more distant family until we heard the heartbeat.

I had 2 m/c last year back to back and had given up of having biological child when I found out I am pregnant. DH and I are not planning on telling anyone before the 13th week. DH wants to wait till 24 weeks to tell everyone including close family and I do not want to wait that long.

Personally after I had my miscarriage, I now wait until after I see/hear the baby's heartbeat on the ultrasound or doppler. It was just too painful to tell people I lost my baby. Thankfully I have only had that one miscarriage and this will be my last pregnancy.

I guess this question gets answered differently by all of us..I too m/c last summer after knowing for only 6 days..I was 6 weeks along and I had told my mom and my sister and co-workers knew because we had been trying for a little while and I was so excited that it had finally happened..also I work with cleaning products so I would rather let my boss know earlier on so he can monitor what is dangerous for me to be around..after that loss we promised each other not to tell right away..I found out this month that I am expecting again for the first time since that m/c and we have already told mostly everybody (just not on FB) I figured when I found out that even though it is tough to tell people you have m/c I also did not want something like that to happen and never have had the chance to be happy about the was a personal choice..DF would of liked to wait until 12 weeks but again I told the boss for the same reasons and from there a few employees overheard and then it snowballed..and then I figured if they knew why not tell our immediate family..
It's really a personal choice for you and your mate..

I told our parents, close family members and friends right away. Right after the home test was positive.

I believe in a huge support system with lots of positive thoughts and energy. It would kill me to keep it from my parents and people who are important to me.

It is great news, so why not spread the joy?

    kstategrad07 replied to danrubes's response:
Thanks everyone! Even if I was to have a MC, I would still want my mom to know, because thats not something I would want to go through alone. I know I would have DH, but he's at work during the day. I think we are going to tell them this evening!

I agree. Even if a MC occurred, I'd still want a support system to get me through it. Can't imagine going through it alone!

    Good luck!

    I am just lurking........
With DS I told my mom at 7 weeks and MIL at 9 weeks. (BIL knew right away because he was living with us when I took the test and we have thin BUT.... knowing what I know now? next time we are totally doing it differently. I have had a MC since DS was born.... I didn't tell anyone I was preggo which was a relief, it made the whole thing much easier not having to explain that I wasn't pregnant anymore to everyone. Also....... My MIL and I used to get along great but the minute she found out that I was pregnant she turned psycho. The next time around we are going to wait until after the first trimester to tell my family.....and we will send announcments after the baby is born to DH's (just kidding.... I will definitely be dragging it out until I am 'showing' though....and last time I didn't show until I was 8-9 months...strangers didn't know I was preggo at all even a week before I was due).
    hlvmom10 replied to orin34's response:
bahaha "and we will send announcments after the baby is born to DH's " .... I love it.

I kept it secret with DS untill I was in my 2nd tri. I told my mom the day I found out.. but everyone else had to wait. I made the mistake of telling to early in sept 11 and i had a m/c at 7 weeks.

I am now 10 weeks and have a zipper on my knows.. best friend knows... other than that... o'well.
    Shakanson responded:
I told my mom right away, the same morning I found out. I couldn't help it, I talk to her all the time and she probably had an idea about it already. But we haven't told anyone else and my mom is sworn to secrecy because we don't want everyone knowing for a while. My in-laws have big mouths, so if I told them I'd have people I didn't know congratulating me and asking all sorts of questions. My husband and I are thinking after I'm 12 weeks we will start telling everyone else.
