I'm not sure if this is your first pregnancy, and if you already know some of this I apologize, and I am a lengthy writer. I'm no expert, and I'm only about 12 weeks into my first pregnancy, but I'll tell you what I've been through and learned so far. I found out I was pregnant on April 9th- the estimated I was about 4 -5 weeks pregnant based off my last period. Since I was at risk for an ectopic pregnant my primary ordered an ultrasound -I found out I was 5 weeks, 6days pregnant.
(figuring out how pregnant you are this early can be difficult, and an ultrasound is much more accurate than estimating based on your last period, if you do it the latter way the guess can be off by two or so weeks so the 9 weeks could have been wrong if you didn't find out how far along you were the first time by ultrasound),
Two days after my ultrasound I experienced slight bleeding, and went to the ER. They told me I was having a threatened miscarriage. However, my mom also happens to work in the E.R, and I wasn't having any sever cramps, just mild ones, she told me that while the doctor and the ultrasound technician were qualified to do their job, they work in the E.R and can't generally beat the diagnosis of an OB/GYN whose profession solely focuses on babies. I was devastated, and paranoid, I didn't have an OB/GYN yet but made an appointment with my primary and had blood tests done to test my HCG hormone levels. A few days later I found out my HCG levels were increasing and everything seemed okJ I have my first official OB/GYN on the 24th, and it's a little late because we only have one group of them around here but most OB/GYN's want to see you between 8 and 10 weeks, so you should probably go ahead and schedule an appointment, if you can't get one soon enough and you're really worried, do what I did and schedule to have a blood test done with your primary (they'll take some blood, test it, and then take more blood two days later to test to see if your HCG levels are increasing) if they're increasing you don't have to worry so much ( I know- easier said than done) Spotting is normal during early pregnancy, from what I've heard there's not much to be concerned about unless it's heavy (like your period, and you're having sever cramps) However, every pregnancy is different- do what you need to do to get peace of mind, I hope the best for you!

Hi thanks dear, this is my first pregnancy and i was actually going to have my first ultrasound visit scheduled with OB/GYN for 1st june (before the bleeding had occurred and when my pregnancy test was positive last month this is the date doc gave me for first gyn visit). however I had to visit ER today and yeah its very cofusing at this point of whats going on but my bleeding is not yet stopped its still going on little by little. I am only worried how long would it last if i still have a healthy pregnancy? any idea?

From what I read spotting is common during the first trimester; 20-30% of women experience some bleeding during early pregnancy. Some of the causes include implantation bleeding (when the embryo attaches itself to the uterine wall), There is also increased blood flow to the cervix, so sex, or a pap smear can sometimes cause some bleeding, or a cervical polyp, (a harmless growth on the cervix which is more likely to bleed during pregnancy because of the extra blood flow to that region).

For me, the spotting lasted about five days, but every pregnancy is different, some women spot through the entire first trimester. You've already been to the ER, so I'm hoping they've already tested to for and ruled out infections that could cause bleeding (such as STD's and UTI's) and your spotting sounds very slight so you probably don't have anything seriously wrong.

sorry about your loss... was this what the ob/gyn has advised you or did your bleeding get worse?
I know this is a hard time for you right now and I hope you have support to help you get thru it! I m/c at this time in my 1st pregnancy so I know what you are going thru! I'll keep you in my thoughts and if you ever need to talk I'm here! There is still plenty of hope. I had a m/c at 9 wks in 2006 and gave birth to a healthy baby boy in 2009 and am now almost 25wks pregnant with another baby boy in 2012! have faith and give yourself time to heal!!!
