Revised: New Features on Exchanges!

Andie_WebMD_Staff posted:
Dear Members, You may have noticed some changes that happened to your Exchange after last weekeend. We rolled out a few new features and added back the ability for you all to add signatures to your posts. Here are some of the new things to check out: Finding Expert Content ? On the front page of an Exchange you will now see ?Includes Expert Content? if an expert has responded in a thread. So, if you?re just looking for expert feedback you can find it more easily. Signatures ? If you visit your Exchange Profile page you will now see a place to add your signature. You can add a different signature to each Exchange you join, so that it?s a more personalized experience. TRIGGER ? Moderators can now add a TRIGGER notation to a post. So, if you come across a post that you think needs a TRIGGER, send the link to our mods at ExchangeManagement@WebMD.net and someone will take a look and add TRIGGER if necessary. Guest Experts and Sponsored Guests ? Very soon we hope to be adding guest experts to some of our moderated Exchanges. These will be experts who are available for a limited time to answer questions about specific aspects of a topic. For instance, there might be a diabetes diet expert visiting the Diabetes Exchange. You may also notice ?Sponsored? guests. These are experts that may be nominated by one of our site sponsors, and they will answer in much the same way as a guest expert, but it will be clear that their content is from a sponsor. We hope that you like these new additions, and we welcome your comments and suggestions as well. Our product and engineering teams are already hard at work on even more changes and additions that have been suggested by our members, and we hope to have those ready soon. Please feel free to write to us at ExchangeManagement@WebMD.net and let us know what you think. Yours in Health, The WebMD Community Staff

Yup new features and the FB and Other SocialNetwork Links are a Joke!!! You've already seen the chaos its caused on another board.. Sorry just don't think its right for some stranger to have the right to clikc a button and share my story wherever they want!

I felt safe positing personal things i don't anymore

So Starla if I click "share" under your post, it will just go somewhere public? That's scary!

Yup.. I know you could do this before but you'd have to copy and paste the links from he page into these networks..

now they've just made it "EASIER" supposedly this is a good thing.. maybe for them.. but sorry not for me I should have the option to disable PUBLIC Sharing links right from my posts i start.. I'd bet they see NO ONE USES IT..

ok so i understand mabye ADVERISING YOUR OWN exchange you create.. BUT THATS IT.. not the actuall POSTS from it!! ugh..

That sucks! I feel safe and hidden here, we don't want anyone to know we are expecting for several weeks, so my name and pic and everything would be somewhere online like facebook or twitter? Isn't there anything we can do to protect ourselves? Hear this WebMD??

Totally agree! Yeah, it's not that hard to do it without the links, but now you're just making it easier and that's NOT good!

i always liked that WebMD was different from other places. so i wanted to say something here that doesn't appear to popular.

i don't post much, usually just see what others are posting. i often would copy and paste interesting stuff into emails to my friends/family that i wanted them to read...was cumbersome, but i have been doing it for a while and have gotten used to it.

however, every other board i look at allows me to share the stuff folks post to sites like facebook and digg. unless you use your real name, who ever knows who you are? and i would think by now most people who contribute to something on the web don't use their real names. i mean, back in high school (dating myself here a bit) before anyone heard of the web or email, my buddies had "handles" (code names they were known by online...though i am not sure "online" was what they called it).

i like that i don't have to copy and paste this anymore. the folks who contribute to these boards often have some great advice, valuable nuggets of information i like sharing with people i know.

and if i chose to share someone's post on twitter, per se, their photo is not shared, just the words. sure, their user name is in there, but how does that expose who they "really are"?

the web is moving fast. facebook is in the news for good reason: they are not managing their new stuff properly. but sharing information is not new to the web, and what is private is getting redefined as i type this out. so far (and i say so far because i am constantly reevaluating)...so far i trust WebMD when they tell me they do not sell or share my personal information with others. however, all of the words i just wrote here are not personal ( or private). if they were, i would have only emailed them to selected recipients.

instead, they are here for all of you to share.

Hi Anon_34129,

Thank you for your feedback on how you have been using and sharing information from WebMD. We appreciate hearing from all positions and is very important to gather for improving our user experience overall.

There are many more users just like you, that come to WebMD to research and educate themselves, but don't necessarily want to participate in the community aspect of sharing comments.

I especially appreciate and agree with your statement:

"the folks who contribute to these boards often have some great advice, valuable nuggets of information i like sharing with people i know."

That is what a community is all about, and we boast the best of the best right here. :)

WebMD is constantly striving to improve and offer our community the most current tools available for our Members. Our hopes are that as we roll out changes and listen to our community that we continue to offer the best health community available online.

Thank you for sharing with us and letting us say hello to you too! :)
