Previous Lead Exposure and Pregnancy
An_243293 posted:
Hello, I am 26 and have just started trying to get pregnant. I recently found out that I have had previous exposure to lead through an herbal supplement that I took (taken for about 6-9 months over the past two years). The amount of lead in the supplement was around 1.2 ppm. I am finding conflicting information on acceptable lead levels in supplements/herbs/pharmaceuticals. I have found acceptable levels anywhere from 0.5 micrograms/day (California's Proposition 65) to 10 ppm (amount alowed in US Pharmaceuticals). I know that previous exposure to lead can result in release of ;ead blood from the mother's bone to the fetus during pregnancy and that this can result in various complications (birth defects or problems with the child's brain development). My question is what level of lead exposure pre-pregnancy is considered safe for a child? (Essentially I am wondering if it may not be a good idea for me to try to become pregnant with this past exposure...) Thank you!
