ok ladies. i live in Nebraska and me and DH are flying to San Francisco on Friday for the whole week of Christmas! yay!!! super excited to see my mom!! BUT, for the first time in my life, i'm getting quite anxious about flying in snowy weather (we layover in Minneapolis and its pretty snowy here too). i'm worried that i'm going to get overly anxious about landing and flying through bad weather and may send myself into a panic, like the kind where your heartrate is way up and you start to panic silently in your seat until you feel like your gonna pass out.... yeah, that kind  i have a Dr. appt tomorrow so i'll ask him what i can do or take to calm me, but have any of you dealt with this before? were you given anything by your dr. that is safe to take during pregnancy that will ease nerves?

Ashley, I go through that panic every time I fly. It seems to get worse every flight I take and I've taken some long international flights. I've had to take stuff to relax me the last several times I've flown. Not really sure what they do for you while pregnant, because I haven't flown in a few years, but I just wanted to respond to you and let you know you're not alone!!

I am a flight attendant and my DH is a pilot and we personally have seen a lot of people like this if you feel like you are going to pass out please let a flight attendant know ASAP they can put you on oxygen which will help you a lot! Also bring a paper bag to breathe in and out of this helps out a lot as well! I would just suggest that you wear your seatbelt whenever seated, and drink plenty of water. Also get up and walk around every half hour or so. Flying in the winter can be rough sometimes because of the winds but you will be ok. I have experienced some pretty bad turbelence and landings in my day and I am still here to talk about it :) I love to fly buy I know a lot of people are afraid of it, my DH best describes turblence like you are hitting waves in a boat, you are just hitting waves in the air. Your landing in San Fran will be ok because there won't be snow there so it should be smooth sailing :) which airline are you flying? It might help if you talk to one of the flight attendants or pilots as well and explain your fears to them before you take off, they will put your mind at ease. Enjoy your trip!

I wonder if Dramamine (sp?) is safe to take during pregnancy. I love to fly but get a little anxious. Dramamine helps with the motion sickness and because it makes me super drowsy, it calms my fears. I'm too tired to care what's going on. The downside is that I'm grumpy until it wears off. I think Kami has great advice. Walk around often and let the flight attendant know if feel like you're going to pass out. Have fun in San Fran!

I just wanted to write to say that Dramamine is NOT safe during pregnancy, when I was so sick in the begining I asked my ob about it for relief. and he told me NO! He didn't explain everything, but he said it was NOT safe at all. And you are not alone on the flying definetly not my favorite thing to do!

yeah, i've flown a million times and always just fine, but i'm just really nervous that i'm gonna get panicky this time... as a flight attendant, do you ever let preggos sit up front so there is leg room and easy access to the bathrooms? our seats are already assigned, but do they ever switch people? i totally forgot to request those seats. we fly delta there and northwest back...

SophiasMommy08 responded:
yes you can ask the flight attendants if they can switch you to a seat where there is more leg room like a bulk head row seat. I would check with the gate agent before you board. I know with continental 24hrs prior to departure you can switch your seat. I would try to at least get a aisle seat.

hey, i'm also worrying about this. i hate flying, and last year (which i think was the last time i flew) i seriously almost had a panic attack. my heart was pounding and pounding and i was soo scared. plus, i normally feel sick on the plane and my motion sickness has been way worse during my pregnancy, so i don't think it's gonna be much fun. we are also driving all over the place once we get there, which also sucks. my doctor said it would be okay to take gravol, which i was thinking might help with the motion sickness and make me so tired i might not be so scared! but we'll see.

Hi , I probably have the worst fear of flying than anyone else. It started when I was a young teen and a plane I was on towards houston suddenly filled with black heavy smoke t hroughout the cabin, and we made an emergency landing. Eversince, I go into full fledge panic on every flght. Unfortunately I have to fly frequently to visit family throughout the US, but I take ambien every time. It works like a charm. I only take it when I fly with someone else though, because I sleep like a baby. I tried valium and xanax and other drugs like that and it did nothing for me. When I have ambien in my purse, I don't even worry about flying because it gives me the comfort I need. I am flying 2 months before my due date accross the country to visit family, and my OB already ok'd for me to take ambien for the flight. It is a class B medicine. My doctort thinks the benefits of me being calm far outweighs me going into a panic on the flight. HTH! Bella
