Did I Over Do It?

Ok so this is not that interesting of a topic, HOWEVER, I would appreciate ANY advice you ladies may have for me.

I work midnights. THis morning after work I stayed up til 9:45 am which was when my husband, son, and I decided to go run errands. My husband needs to help with heavy lifting now so it's a family affair when we go to the grocery store! We drove 15 minuted to Toys R Us to reward my son for good behavior throughout these last two weeks. Then we went grocery shopping for a little over an hour. Hubby is irritated, I'm irritated, and son only wants to go HOME so he can play with his toys. Bottom Line = VERY STRESSFUL morning (in my case, evening) THerefore tonight I am ridiculously tired. I couldn't fall asleep until oafter 3:00pm, then I woke up at 7:30 and COULD NOT fall abck asleep. Just tossing and turnign!

So my question is.....Did I over do it? Did I do too much? It just seems like I did nothing more than usual. Could it have been the stress of having the whole family there? Why couldn't I fall asleep when I was DEAD TIRED?! Could I possibly be getting sick? I rarely, if ever get sick. A cold maybe once a year. Never fever or vomitting. I guess I'm a little worried that I over did it and the stress of my day may have stress out my LO. Can being overtired hurt the baby? SOrry for all the questions, but I had alot!!!

TIA

I work split shifts so I get the idea of being run down sometimes.

Maybe you might have over did it but I would say if your body is tired and you can feel yourself getting irritated then maybe you need to at least relax. Even if I get exhausted and I can't sleep I just relax and kick my feet up.

Its all up to you and how your body feels. If I was you I would have probably just layed down for a little bit after work.

I think you'll be ok though.

I have to agree with PP. Once you let yourself get over tired it's actually harder to fall asleep and once you do it's not very restful sleep. I wouldn't worry too much about one day of stress but I would try not making a habit out of it. Maybe next time you can get in a nap before heading out to run errands or set aside some "me" time once you get back to relax yourself, maybe a warm bath or just time alone. I work a split shift also 5-2 so I know how hard it can be to wind down. Try to take it easy

I work nights at a hospital...and I sooooo know what you mean!!! The other night I tried to take a nap before I went in and I literally laid there for like 3 hours staring at the ceiling and I was whipped! Sometimes I think we do just over do it! I guess my next question would be if you take anything for sleep?

For the past month or so, I can't seem to sleep for too long, even though I'm soooooo tired I don't want to get out of bed.

I go to bed late (1st tri I used to at 8:30 or 9), now it's 12am. And I get up a couple times per night, plus I get up around 4-4:30 and can't sleep until morning.

Of course, once morning is here, I get up to get things done. I try to sleep a couple hours in the late morning, but not all the time. I CAN'T SLEEP! I don't know what to do. I'm soooo tired sometimes. I hope it doesn't continue too long, because I need all the rest I can now. What am I going to do when the baby gets here?????

Lil_Reggies_mom - I do not take anything to help me sleep. I am taking several prescription meds this pregnancy and I try not to take ANY over the coutner meds unless absolutely necessary. Is there anything that is considered safe for pregnant women to take??

You know I have NEVER felt this tired my entire pregnancy. I suppose it could be because of just overdoing it. The mental stress of it all was just toooo much for me. I was already tired then having to deal with DH and DS together. Sadly when we all do something for anythign other than recreation there is tons of tension and stress. Usually I do errands alone and I actually enjoy them!

I have since eaten lunch and had a snack pack pudding. It seems I have a bit more energy but it may just be the sugar......Thanks again ladies

Yes, there sure are things you can take. I know what you mean about the med thing...but I figure it's probably just as bad for mama to tell crappy and tired all the time, you know? My doc has approved (and you'll find these on med lists in some pretty reliable sources) Benadryl, Tylenol PM, and Unisom. My doc has even prescried Ambien to other women. Which I'm not sure about the Ambien part....don't think I would need that much sleep...lol, but if I were you I'd give the Benadryl a whirl, but it's totally up to you. Unless you have aches and pains and then you could take Tylenol PM which is just Benadryl and Tylenol together....anyway, I hope something works, good luck to you!!!

I would say you overdid it...not a big deal for one day though! Maybe DH & DS could go shopping w/o you? I haven't done a serious shopping trip this whole pg and it's working out OK. Then, even if you don't want to sleep, you could lay @ and rest.

I find that I don't have 1/2 the stamina I used to have before pg but I'm just not doing that much these days.

dwaw - HA! I just had to laugh when you suggested that my husband and my son go without me! In a normal functional family that would be a possiblity but ....not mine. Seriously though, I think I just need to go alone and get smaller broken down versions of what I normally buy bulk. Like water and pop. I can do 12 pks of all of that. It was just TOO much. Thank you for the suggestion though!!
