Hi everybody..I am 15 1/2 wks and have been eating Yolpait yogurt throughout my pregnancy and heck, even way before.. for some reason I just noticed it contains Aspartame and I have heard from almost every lady that we (being prego) absolutely SHOULD NOT eat anything w/that!! So, I called my doctors office and the receptionist said "what? i never heard of that before".. ?!?!? wtf ? Help please somebody calm my nerves for me! should I totally be worried about hurting the baby or even chancing a mc?

don't worry about it, there really isn't very much in there and it's not going to affect the baby. If you were eating copious amounts of it, you should be worried but you're fine!

Well, aspartame is one of those "things" that no one actually knows if it has harmful effects to the baby. Lots of people believe it's bad for you, but there really is no actual evidence of that.

That being said, the amount in yogurt will not harm you or your baby. I drink diet soda all the time, and I don't worry about it harming my baby. There are so many additives in our foods, we'd never eat or drink anything that wasn't completely all natural if we wanted to ensure that no chemicals were ever ingested. JMO, it's no big deal. I drank at least one can of diet soda a day with my first DD and she is fine, perfect actually :-)

its fine. its nothing we counsel our patients on either. You are pretty safe to just follow the guidleines from your provider. The calcium is good for you.

i thought that was an okay one, but sweet & low, or "saccharin" was bad because it will cross the plecenta.

from "what to expect when you're expecting"... "aspartame (equal, nutrasweet) is used in beverages, yogurt and frozen foods but not in baked goods or cooked foods (it doesn't survive when heated for long periods.) ...Many practitioners will give the okay for light or moderate use in pregnancy. Adding a packet to a cup of tea or coffee or dowing a dish of aspartame-sweetened yogurt is probably fine. Regularly filling up on diet drinks or aspartame sweetened desserts isn't."

hope that helps!

Thanks everybody!! I try not to get "to involved" in what is bad and good - but to use common sense -- its still nerve racking!

This is baby #4 for me and all I drink is diet soda's. I am a diabetic and that's all I can have. I have 3 healthy kids. And trust me I drink way more then I should and love yogurt. I think it's just that no one really knows what it will do. Good luck.
