the past 2 weeks or so i've been getting increasingly depressed to the point where it's a huge struggle just to get up and do the simplest thing. i've had depression for years now but i'm not taking anything for it anymore because of the pregnancy. anyone have any suggestions on how to get back into the swing of things?

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. I have OCD and anxiety and refuse to take meds during pregnancy, so a bit opposite, but I do go through bouts of depression because of it.

Generally, I try to find things to occupy myself like stupid games online or I try to get into books to keep my mind off of things I shouldn't be thinking about.

I typically try to get outside and walk, but I'm in the NE, so winter time is tough...

Sometimes even just forcing myself to go out with a few friends for some laughs helps out, too. And even venting on here is therapeutic!!

Hope you find something to pull you up again. . .just know you are not alone and you're going to make it through this!! Just a few more months!!!

Vitamin D3. My doctor has me taking it and it has been helping me. Have your doctor check your blood levels for it. I dont know if you live in a sunny place or not but here during the winter is very rainy and dark and I was on Zoloft before I got prego(now im not). I would get seasonal depression the past couple years and this year has been the first time I have been fine. I had very low Vitamin D levels before taking it. Its also good for the baby. Also fish oil!! My doctor has me taking that as well. They make them mercury free most cases now. If you freeze it then you dont burp fish b/c by the time its normal temp its way down in the digestive track. Talk w/your doc and bring those ideas up and see what they say.

lurking from 3rd...
sorry to hear your feeling down and depressed.. I suffer from bipolar disorder.. my doc had me try to make it through the first tri which I did.. since about 16 weeks Ive been on cylexa for depression and knonopin for sleep and anxiety.. so there are some safe things for you to take in low doses..
also some OTC thing syou can do is take fish oil with DHA in it.. or just plain old DHA which is in the vitamin isle as well.the DHA is awsome for depression.
also buy a full spectrum light bulb and put it in the lamp of your favorite sitting spot and a couple times a day 20-30 minutes at a time sit under the light.. its like sitting in the sun without the awful effects of the sun..
it does help lift light depression and generally in combination with something like DHA or fishoil with DHA does help with the depression.
hang in there and def keep open communication with your doctor..
im sorry your feeling this way but know your not a lone and there are things you can do to help ..
ill be thinking of you..

I'm no expert and I don't know the severity of your symptoms, but I've been feeling down lately, fatigue and frustration all piled up inside me. Ive never been this immobile in my life and it feels crippling. One day my friend invited me to go with her to the Human Society. She intends to purchase a dog in the next 3 months. I had a wonderful time just playing with the puppies and even the big dogs. Looking in the puppies eyes as they came to me for comfort reminded me of the beauty of new life and reminded me of the joy to be experienced with my own newborn.

In short it was a very simple solution that required no medication. If I wasn't pregnant I think I would volunteer there on weekends. Try and take care of someone or something that might need your help. Elderly parents, grandparents, or just play with some puppies, you'll be surprised how much they appreciate your company.

I've also picked up playing my guitar again. Me and my fetus rock out everyday.
