Hey Everyone,

I need some advise and/or some reassurance. I work in a nursing home as a social worker. I am 24 weeks pregnant and just found out that someone in the nursing home may have shingles. What do I do? I know they can be very dangerous to the baby if I get them. I have had chicken poxas a kid but still really worried that I could get shingles and endanger my baby. Also, I have a two year old in daycare he has not had the chicken pox what happens when he gets them and I'm still pregnant?? It seems there is also something to worry about!! Plus, my doctor is on vacation this week and it just so happens that my back up doctor is also on vacation!

If your doctor is not available, I would call the Labor and Delivery at the hospital and speak to one of the nurses. They may recommend that you take time off until the patient with the shingles is no longer sick. My dad had shingles when I was pregnant with DD1 and I couldn't be around him until he was healthy again.
