Ok, I'm sure I'll be burned at the stake and shunned for this suggestion. However, that's just it - it's a suggestion based on my opinion and please educate yourself to make your own decision. I know bipolar medications are intense medications, as well as anti-anxiety medications - we all know that from the deaths they cause. If you live in a state where medical marijuana is legal, I suggest speaking to your doctor if that would be acceptable to consume (eating it probably being the best method). There are pharaceutical equivilents but I wouldn't trust it in an unnatural pill form. It could help with both the anxiety and any nausea you may experience. However, everyone's body is different and therefore may react differently - I've known some people to have the exact opposite effect - it made them have an anxiety attack. I don't believe all the negative propaganda about the herb and I put more faith in those doctors from Harvard Medical that conclude it is harmless. Can't wait to read the backlash from this response....fire away!

I would recommend speaking to your doctor. They will be able to either recommend some safe medications for you or offer other suggestions of things to try first. Good luck!

I suffer with anxiety and depression. More often then not fluctuating hormones don't assist in the matter. I have been on medication and have been told going into my pregnancy that there are SSRI's in which you can take.

Some do put your baby at a higher risk but weight the cost of your sanity and that of your friends and family around you. It is a decision that you need to make after talking with your OB, your psychologist, and your loved ones. Not before and not alone.

As far as the medical marijuana, a point may be made there. Discuss with your doctor if you live in a state that it is legal. And, smoking always has negative effects but ingestion may not. But, just like many SSRI's there has not been enough research to be overwhelmingly conclusive as far as harm done to the fetus. It would be in the B and C category for prescription drugs.

Regardless of the choice you make, there is ample availability to research, or lack of it, just ensure you use viable sources and not ones that are put out as scare tactics.
