    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

I have to go in for the 3 hr glucose test in the morning. I figure I probably WILL have GD, my 1 hr level was 205. Diabetes runs in my family, and I had to do the 3 hr with DS 9 years ago, although it was fine then. ANYWAY, I want to breastfeed. I already know I will have to have a C section because I pushed with DS for 3 hours and he wouldn't move, so they don't want to risk it with this one. I asked my Dr. this morning about how soon to bf after the surgery and he said I could immediately, but that was before we got the sugar level. So will my having GD cause a delay in bf-ing? Do they ALL have to have formula supplemented in hospital? Or can we just start bf-ing ? It is SO important to me to be able to exclusively breastfeed!

I was gestational diabetic with my son 5 yrs ago. I will be taking the 3 hr test in a few weeks. I breastfed my son about 10 mins after he was out. They tested me and my son's sugar levels and we were both normal hours after delivery. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to breastfeed your baby. I'm not a health care professional but it's just my two sense for what it's worth. Good luck!
