It could be round ligament pain, which can run anywhere from the groin area up around your lower stomach. From what the dr. explained, there are ligaments that run on each side and that stretch. From what I've read, this is worst during the second trimester. You can search webmd under round ligment pain and it'll explain it better about the symptoms etc. It does say that the pain is worse on the right side, but mine has always been more on the left side. I've found that it hurts more if I've been really active and that the pain pretty much stops if I lay down and rest for a while. I wouldn't consider the pain severe and when it's sharp, it's only for a moment. Maybe some other ladies have a different experience with it though. I would always err on the side of caution though, so if the pain is severe, feels like menstrual cramps, seems to be at regular intervals, or is accompanied by other things like bleeding, I'd call your ob if they have someone on call who answers questions on the weekends or go to the ER.

I agree with the PP. I've been experiencing this for a few weeks now and this weekend was the WORSE!!! We went to an amusement park on Saturday and I took it real easy but I still think it was more strain than I'm use to. Today it feels a little better but I'm thinking of putting a call into the OB. Mine started around 14 weeks, so it's possible that it's the same for you. If you've tried changing positions, tylenol, and a heating pad and the pain is still there, I'd call your OB.
