I have a 3 year old and I recently had a baby boy he will be 3 weeks on tuesday, well after my post partum bleeding stopped (after 1 1/2 weeks after delivery) I called my OB and asked about sex and he is pro-life and doesnt prescribe birth control (his partner does) he told me as long as Im not bleeding and Im not hurting and sex doesnt hurt then yes we could, he said with or without protection was up to us depending on our veiws of having another baby so soon....So anyway we had sex after my bleeding stopped and again last night (unprotected). So I know I very well maybe pregnant but Im wondering (because I keep reading conflicting info.) what are the REAL odds of being pregnant after delivery? Does anyone know?

I don't know the odds and if it's higher than the 20% for regular times, but I have seen a lot written saying that women are super fertile after giving birth, especially if they aren't breastfeeding. and even if you are breastfeeding, that isn't a reliable form of birth control.

The biggest problem with sex early after the baby is that you don't know when you will start ovulating until you have a couple of consistent periods. Heck, you don't even know when the first ovulation is until after you have your period. That may be why they say women are super fertile. Some women might ovulation 2, 4, 6 or more weeks post partum. No one knows when it's going to happen for them.

You can definitely get pregnant immediately postpartum. I know a ton of people who have kids less than a year apart...some of which were pregnant by their 6 week appt.

You go girl for having sex 1.5 wks after giving birth...I couldn't imagine doing so. After Ava I felt like there was no way any pleasure could come from there for awhile - LOL!!! Just know that yes you can easily get pregnant, as for the odds, I dont know, but I do have quite a few who got 'caught.' Good luck!

totally not knocking your doc or you.. but from what I was informed and maybe it was because i had a c section... i was advised to not get pregnant right away.. that your body needs time to reboot and get back into its normal form..
my doc before I left the hospital with DD wanted to know what my plans were for prevention and stuff until my 6 week check up and then was I planning on anything like the IUD or whatever..
so my docs office is not down with prego right after you have just had one..
on a personal note.. Ic ant imagine being pregnant again that soon..
and I have no clue how you had sex that early.. i waited till after my 6 weeks check up and even then I went through like a whole bottle of lube and it still didnt work out the first few times cuz I was in to much pain...
Best of luck and hope you and the lil one are healthy and well

Well I guess I was just hot for my husband cause we havent had to use any lube and sex hasnt been hurting me, LOL. As far as my doc , he says that he hasnt had anyone in his 25 years practice have any problems with pregnacy before 6 weeks check up so Im not really concerned, I dont want to be pregnant this early but I wouldnt mind it either. Cause I know its my last so but I do want time to enjoy my new little guy... Thank you, ShanunC, I know after my first I didint feel like having sex but for some reason this one I just wanted my husband...LOL. Well either way ladies I know that I have a board to come to and talk if I am pregnant again. your all so great.

well tell your hubby to tell my hubby the secret to me wanting him..lol.. cuz if I could get that way naturally maybe sex after having a baby wouldnt be so bad..lol.. hopefully cuz Im having a c section this time around the internal pain wont be bad like it was with DD.. with her it was labor and trying to get her out and then a c section.. so I had the vaginal discomfort as well as the incisional.. UGHHH.
you brave women....lol... glad you have such a wonderful outlook and hope you and the new one are healthy and well..
Oh and pass on to your hubby he shoudl feel very lucky.. most women I talk to dont even want to touch there hubbies in the first 6 weeks.. tell him he got himself a great wife and he shoudl be kissing your feet or something..lol

LOL I dont know about being a great wife but I hope he feels lucky anyway...LOL I wish I knew the secret to share with all you ladies, yea I hear alot of women say they like never want to have sex again after baby, and I guess we just got lucky with Baby because he sleeps like 4 hours in between feedings so i gues that who caome we had time for sex...LOL Yea id think a c-section would make it harder cause youd have to wait for incision to heal up and everything...
