Not so common "to-do's" before baby comes...

So, I reallllly felt horrible today. Had some MAJOR cramping & sharps pains and it really got my butt in gear to prepare for the possibility of baby...I thought I 'd share a few things that I didn't think of before today that some of you might find helpful...hopefully will find helpful, lol.

I promise I am not a conceited- I wear a t-shirt & no make up 90% of the time...BUT I was looking through pics of my daughters birth & I realized I looked HORRIBLE! I'm not meaning my hair & make up weren't done...I am talking my eyebrows looked like giant caterpillars, my nails looked way overly grown, DH horribly needed a hair cut & shave! I know everyone says "oh, you just had a baby" ok, I wasn't expecting to look like a Beauty Queen, but it looked like I flat out gave up on myself! So, tonight I waxed my face, masked, cut/filed/buffed my nails & informed DH he needed to cut his hair in the next couple days & keep up with his shaving from now til baby is born!

A few other things I thought of today: mowing our grass...I know it's winter, but it is looking a little shabby, & if we are in the hospital for a week (like we were last time) we won't be thinking about mowing the lawn when we get home! Cleaned out our fridge...I made a conscious decision what I would eat (as far as left overs) in the next few days, & threw the rest out. I cleaned out DD diaper genie, made sure all the clean clothes were put away (I don't know about any of you, but I have a bad habit of putting them in a laundry basket instead of where they go!).

Basically, I am going through double checking the house to make sure if we have to leave at last minute notice for potentially a week we can find everything quickly & don't have to worry about people coming while we are gone & thinking we are pigs. Maybe this sounds crazy to you, but I admit I have gotten pretty lazy with the household chores so I'm trying to have everything in order.

That all makes a lot of sense really. I will probably do the same thing once I get closer. I have been blessed with a husband who does most of the house chores which is a plus. But there will be certain things that I will have to change around and organize the DH won't be able to do (like work related stuff and how I want the spare room to look-it will become carsons room until we move-though for the big items he has to move it since dressers and tvs are heavy). I plan to go in for like a spa day once i get a little closer to carson being here as well so that I can get my nails trimmed and polished (and toes since its hard enough putting on socks). And prob a hair cut but not for sure. Just waiting on the baby showers to finish organizing things for baby carsons room. Its driving me nuts because i just want to go get the things I need versus waiting for the showers but people keep telling me to wait.I have random nesting points too where I get in the mood to organize something and then it turns into a 3-4 hour project on a few different things. Hate to see how I will get once I get closer lol

That makes a lot of sense. It's all weighing on me, really. I'll wake up in the morning, look around our bedroom, and think, "I need to get this cleaned out so there is room for the baby. I'll do it tonight!" Then, when I get home from work...and once the kids are in bed...I'm just completely run down. I have no energy left for it.

I don't know how we're going to get things into shape, especially when I stop and think that we only have five Saturdays left until my little guy is likely to get here - and Saturdays are just the ONLY day there's a chance! But that's the only day we have to DO stuff, too...it seems like something always comes up...this Saturday we're going out of town, the next Saturday I'm meeting with my doula, after which we'll probably have something going on...the next Saturday I'll be 38 weeks, and who knows what kind of energy I will/won't have then?

Ahhhhhh! Sorry to turn this into a whine session! I just feel so overwhelmed by what needs to be done...it's making me crazy!

I must be nesting....I cleaned out my washing maching last night. Not the whole machine, but I took apart where you put the fabric softener and cleaned that out.

Lysana replied to lobermann's response:

Yep!! I pulled out the manual (thank goodness the landlords left that) to figure out how to take it apart to clean it.

I don't think nesting has actually hit me yet because there are still lots of things I know I need to pick up/clean, but haven't had the energy...I've heard once the nesting kicks in I will make the energy! lol.

Lurking from 2nd Trimester.....

I just wanted to put my two cents in. With our first DD, I forced myself (& my DH) to work on baby's room when I was in my 2nd trimester preparing for exhaustion in my third...and boy am I glad I did. So this time around, I am doing the same thing!

I took two vacation days this week to reorganize and move crap out our computer room is turning into baby's room and we went out and bought a laptop. I think the hard part is over....now it is just washing walls/painting, carpeting, and the fun stuff, decorating and picking out a crib & dresser! Oh and while I was at it, I washed all the bedding in the house, shampooed the carpets, and went through the file cabnet.....yep, pretty sure nesting kicked in for me!! Yay! I just feel like I have accomplished so much in the last four days! Sorry if I am bragging about everything that we have gotten done, I just am so happy that I stuck to doing it!

Moral: if you can, set aside one or two days with husband, get a babysitter, and hit it hard with getting as much done as possible! I find that it is way to easy to put it off & I get more excited for the LO when I am prepared at home. I know when we come home from the hospital, we will be able to focus on our two DD.
