Group Strep B positive

Ok, last pregnancy I was negative, this time I'm positive. I know we all carry that bacteria down there and sometimes it's just a little more abundant than usual. BUT I'm wondering what it was like for anyone who has been positive and delivered vaginally. I'm a little worried I'm not going to get the antibiotics fast enough b/c labor with my first child was only 5 hours...

Any thoughts?

OMG just started reading up on all this Group Strep B stuff on the internet and I'm starting to totally FREAK OUT!!!!!!! Please someone tell me they've been through this and their LO is just fine!

My midwife made it sound like it was no biggie, tons of antibiotics during labor, baby will be fine. Worse case, baby needs antibiotics prior to leaving. She said nothing about developmental delays, CP, meningitis, etc...WTFreak!?!?

Relax! With my daughter I had tested positive. I'm allergic to penicillin so they were forced to give me a double dose of clyndamiacin (sp?). I guess it's less effective so not normally their top pick. From check in until my daughter was born was only 3.5 hours and they werent able to get the second dose completed. They finished it after she was born and did a simple test on my daughter to make sure she didnt have the group B.

I was positive with my first DD. I just had the antibiotics before I had her and she was fine. A friend of mine was positive as well her water broke as the were pushing her into the hospital and had the baby like 15 mins later. All they Dr. did was a test on the baby to make sure she didnt have it. She was fine but the nurse told her if the baby did have all they had to do was give her some meds.

Thanks everyone! I've been worrying about it since the test results came back! I've read there is an increased risk for the baby to have early onset GSB if the mom had a uti during pregnancy that was for GSB. I had a uti, but never found out what bacteria it was...only know I was on CIPRO. Hearing your stories makes me feel much better that everything will be fine

I tested positive when I had my daughter last year and my labor was maybe 2 hours so i never had the chance to get enough of the antibiotic in me. Once my daughter was born they started her on anitbiotics too and did a groupb b test and she did test negative and everything was good, my daughter is now a healthy happy 15 month old. Don't worry too much about that, it is a pretty routine thing.
