Diabetes in first trimester

Tifkel posted:
Did anyone get diagnosed with gestational diabetes in their first trimester? Idk if I had it before I got pregnant or not and neither do my doctors but I am TERRIFIED that something will be wrong with my baby. I am 16 weeks. I have kept my blood sugar in control since 7 weeks. If you have experienced what I am experiencing, please let me know how this affected you and your baby. Thanks for the support

I was diagnosed with GD at about 11 weeks. I'm not sure if I had diabetes before I got pregnant or not. There is a possibility. I am 14 weeks now.

I was put on insulin injections right away and a low carb diet and i'm still having a hard time keeping my blood sugars down.

My boyfriend's friends wife had GD and she also had a hard time keeping her blood sugar in check and her baby was born healthy and at a normal weight.

As long as you keep your blood sugar in check you shouldn't have too many problems. The problems start when your blood sugars get too high and your baby gains too much weight.

They started me on glyburide and I had a horrible reaction to it. I am able to manage it with diet and exercise but cant seem to manage it overnight. Insulin is much safer than glyburide. I am going to the clinic today and I am going to tell them that I want insulin. I google waaaaaay too much and scare myself to death. LOL! Thanks, Beckie.

I have a hard time with my blood sugar at night. It's always high in the morning.

Diabetes runs in my family so I wasn't too surprised to find out that I have GD. If it weren't for the fact that my mom and my older sister being diabetic for years I think I would be freaking out too. It's scary to think of what could happen to the baby. I try to stay calm because stress can also make your blood sugars go up.

Hope all goes well. It's not fun having GD. My biggest problem is having to count carbs and trying to get enough to eat.

My mother has it and on my grandfather's side both of his parents, himself and all siblings had it. My aunt had a baby at 41 and had gestational. It runs rampid in my family so I am not surprised. But I was surprised that I got it so early.

I can keep mine down during the day bc I eat right and exercise. I see a trainer 3x a week and walk for 10-15 mins after every meal. But I've read that overnight the liver secretes glucose and the pancreas cant produce enough insulin so the glucose accumulates in the bloodstream. Which you can control while you are up and eating correctly but of course you dont have that option when sleeping.

I have noticed however that if I cheat with the last snack of the day with extra carbs and not enough protein my blood sugar is waaaay higher when I wake up. If I eat correctly I stay in the 90s but that's the best I can do.

I got a new dr. I am going to see what she thinks. I didnt like how the previous drs handled it.

My doctor thinks that my blood sugar is dropping in the middle of the night and then my body is over compensating and so when I test in the morning it's too high. If testing 4 times a day isn't enough now I have to test in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom.

I've been trying to control my blood sugars as much as possible with diet and exercise. I've never been an unhealthy eater but counting carbs is alot more difficult than I thought.

Looks as if we are both doomed when it comes to diabetes. Both my grandmother's were diabetic. I have an aunt on my mothers side that was prediabetic but she was able to reverse that with diet and exercise. As for my mother's other siblings i'm not sure but I think at least one is diabetic. I don't know too much about my dad's family. He only had a younger brother and i'm pretty sure he's not diabetic although my grandmother was. My dad died when I was young so I don't know if he would have been diabetic later in life.

My family there is 9 kids and as far as I know only 2 of my siblings are diabetic with a possibility of 2 others. I know that one of my sister's is diabetic and i'm pretty sure the other one is too but she won't admit to it.

I hope your new dr is better than the last. I got pretty lucky and was able to find a good one right away. It sucks having a lousy dr.
