Does anyone have experience with prostate cancer treatments? Looking for opinions on "davinci method" treatment and radiation treatment.

OK so long story short my father/stepfather has prostate cancer and he isn't good on the internet. He called and asked me if I could find out cancer survivors opinions on the two treatments because he feels like doctors he talks to are just trying to sell him on the method they specialize in but he wants to know which is actually the better choice for him.

So, what is the opinion? Should he go with the "davinci method" or just go with normal radiation?

Thanks in advance.

There are many issues that go into that decision. What his pathology report was, PSA readings, age, and other health issues.

In this thread I mention why I made my decision.

I would investigate proton radiation before choosing either surgery or x radiation. I chose proton because side effects are minimal to zero and i'm very glad I did.

It sounds like you are doing your due diligence. Take your time and get all the information so your father can be comfortable with his decision. There are not just two treatments for prostate cancer. Basically, depending on the Gleason grade and stage, these are your options:

1. Active surveillance/watchful waiting
2. open radical prostatectomy
3. Laparoscopic/robotic prostatectomy
4. brachytherapy
5. external beam radiation
6. cryotherapy

No treatment is perfect and each has its own set of unique side effects and cancer cure rates. Most importantly, whatever approach is chosen, pick a competent and experienced physician (whether it be a surgeon or radiation oncologist)

Best of luck,
BT
