Grape Jelly meat balls

rubystar2 posted:
I know it sounds weird but these are delicious.

2 12 oz jars of chili sauce
1 32 oz jar of grape jelly
1 bag of frozen meatballs (about 80 in a bag)

Mix Chili sauce and grape jelly in the crockpot until well combined. Add frozen meatballs and cook on low for 3 hours or so.

These are always a big hit at potluck parties.

Hi Ruby....ummmm, no...it doesn't sound weird....kinda yucky, but I've learned not to knock it till I've tried it...can't be any worse than my peanutbutter, jelly, mayo, pickles and pineapple sandwiches :eyeroll:

I think I feel sick. Do you REALLY eat a sandwich with those ingredients?

Ask "Da Boss" I've bet she heard about these meatballs.

I did ask "Da Boss"....her response was "Ewwwwwwww" and then she just shook her head....bounced it off my MIL while she was here and she's never heard of it...and she just turned 96!

Sure I eat 'Enhanced' PBJs...haven't had one in a long time, but I can still taste them. Heck, I had a cousin who ate Sardine sandwiches with ketchup!....now THAT'S disgusting!

BTW: I do have Peanut Butter/Jelly/Mayo sandwiches regularly, as well as PB/Mayo...but the others I haven't had in a while.

All right.....you and the boss are cordially invited over to taste the meatballs. Really, if you think about it, it's kind of a barbecue sauce. Instead of sugar it is sweetened with the jelly. The Chili sauce being the 'ketchup base'. (Or catsup, if you prefer)

Drop some in an envelope and shoot it out in the mail...we don't travel (I don't travel) much. Catsup/Ketchup...tomato/tomahto...it's still in the main food group.

I have had it Ruby and its good, the "sauce " takes on a different flavor than expected, its just like my "Tailgate Kielbasa" I never tell anyone whats in it till they eat it

Oh, thank you, BLP. I was starting to feel like I was hanging out in the breeze, here. It is good!! I was wondering if anyone else had ever had it. It's pretty popular around here at any potluck.

The worse thing I ever heard was in a bar in the Phillipeans, and I was a little past half-snockered...and this dolly was sitting on my lap and feeding me this meat out of a pan with some kind of purple sauce...it was really good. So, I said, "What is it?"...She said "I can't tell you."...When I asked why, she said (honest) "It'll make you sick"...oog....bad timing...that was it, I was done :eyeroll:

That's why I ALWAYS find out what's in it FIRST!

I've had this too, not just with meatballs, but lil smokies. I thought it was weird too when I read the ingredients, but you're right - really it's just a diff kind of bbq sauce flavor. So easy. I'm going to try BLP's version with cranberry sauce with lil smokies one of these days.

Not really....but if I had to put money on it (hope you got a strong stomach)...it was boiled monkey brains...seriously...now, Who's Hungry?

(didn't think so)
