to hot to sleep

I need it cool to sleep at night. after a while it feels like an oven from the inside of my body raditating out. i wake up and toss the blankets off, but even my mattress is now very hot and i need to find a new space to sleep. this will happen 3 to 4 times a night. i start with a cold compress around my neck and head to cool me down, but that only lasts for part of the night. does anyone else have this problem and what do you do?

I realize this isn't for everyone but a few years ago I figured out that what really worked best for me was a cold bath (no hot water involved at all). Cold showers just cooled me temporarily, whereas a cold bath, if I could stay in it long enough, could cool me down to the core.

When it's really hot, I keep the cold water in the bath through the night and if I wake up hot, go and lay in it for a couple of minutes and that does the trick.

(It helps that I currently live alone and have a porcelain tub which tends to hold the temperature - hot or cold - for much longer than the usual household tubs.)

I've also slept on towels after rinsing a light piece of lingerie in ice cold water, squeezing it out and putting it on.

Cold compresses and fans can help too.

Having said all that, I haven't slept through the night for many many years because of my own pain condition so I'm used to getting up many times a night. That means I can't swear that any of the tricks I use will actually last through the night because I, personally, don't need them to.

I'm looking forward to reading tips from others.
