Methotrexate and B-12?
marzipana posted:
I take Methotrexate and folic acid. Is there a relationship/interaction between folic acid and B-12? Or Methotrexate and B-12? I seem to feel much better (more energy) if I take a B-12 supplement a couple times a week. However, my B-12 levels tested in the normal range (without supplementation).

Just wondering...
Scott Zashin, MD responded:
We tend to have patients on MTX take Folic Acid because it may decrease the risk of side effects such as liver damage. Typically,I will check a patients B12 level prior to starting folic acid as taking this supplement may eventually mask a B12 deficiency. Some patients feel better on B12 and in those patients that do in my practice, I typically don't have them stop the supplement if it is oral.
