Can RA impact back joints?

painloopy posted:
I have degenerative disc disease as well as RA. My facet and SI joints are often flared up and hurt but my RA doctor says I can't get RA in those joints or any other back joints. I've met other people with RA who say they have it in their back. I ask if they aren't confusing it with Osteo but they say it is RA not Osteo. I'm confused. More than one person has told me this. I've tried to look up online which joints can be impacted by RA but can't find specifics.

Scott Zashin, MD responded:
RA does not affect the lumbar spine or sacrolilliac joints. It can often involve the neck.
