I was recently diagnosed with sero-negative RA. I've been on methotrexate for 3 months. For a month now I have had a dry cough that I can't shake. Should I be worried? Can this be related to the methotrexate? I was on antibiotic for a sinus infection and he cough did not get better. Anyone else have a cough of methotrexate? What exactly is "methotrexate lung"?

Hi Janet. I think your cough is something to tell your rheumy about. My rheumy asked me about this after starting me on mtx. I would call the dr and speak to the nurse about this. I don't know exactly what goes on in the lungs with mtx. I wouldn't blow it off though. There are many other meds to try, if mtx doesn't fit. Good luck.

I appreciate your post is 2 yrs old ... but this may help others.

I was on methotrexate for several yeas for inflammatory polymyositis. In a routine CAT scan, dark spots showed up on my lungs. I later had a lung biopsy that identified large areas of inflammation.

I went to a lung Dr. who promptly took me off methotrexate prescribed by my Rheumatologist. I also started taking curcumin with phytosomes as well as ginger root. He called the inflammation metotrexosis.

    In 3 mos. ... 90% was clear ... by 6 mos. 100% clear.

Needless to say, I have not gone back on methotrexate which I don't think was doing the polymyositis any good anyway.
