    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

    Do I have RA?

About 5 days ago, I began experiencing numbness and tingling in my hands, like they were falling asleep. The next day I noticed that my fingers were swollen, and then the pain started. My fingers ached in my bones. It has progressively gotten worse over the last couple days. Now I am in constant pain with my hands. I cannot close my hand to make a fist. When I do try, I can only get it halfway closed and there is pain in the palm of my hand, like a tendon is stretching or something. I have no ability to grip things, hold things, and just typing or texting induces severe, constant pain. This started about 5 days ago and is happening to both hands, tho the left one is much worse. I have taken lorcet, neurontin, aleve, and ibuprofen-none of which ease the pain at all. What is wrong with me?

Your symptoms sounds like what I feel today. I was dyignosed with RA 3 years ago. See an RA doctor as soon as you can. That's a good start. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It sounds like it could also be carpal tunnel syndrome...I had that same pain problem and could not close either of my fists or grasp anything. The doctor had me change the way I sit at my desk and it dramatically helped. Do you have a desk job?
