help with methotrexate side effects
Scott Zashin, MD posted:
I recommend all my patients on methotrexate take at least 1 mg of Folic Acid daily to help decrease the risk of side effects. In those patients who continue to have side effects (eg. nausea occuring over 24 hours after drug administration, thinning hair etc ), I will add a medication called folinic acid taken one time per week 8 -12 hours after the dose of MTX that may help with the side effect. There are reports of allergic reactions with this drug although it is not common in my experience.

I've never heard of the "folinic acid" in addition to Folic Acid. Due to hair loss, I will ask my Rheumatologist during my next appointment. Recently increased to taking 7 tablets of Methotrexate each week.
