Schizophrenia is a continuous, life-long illness. It does not have an "occurrance" during pregnancy, rather it is a continuous illness.

You use a self-deprecating name ("piglet1960"). Or are you trying to annoy somebody?

I wish I knew the effects of schizophrenia on the fetus during pregnancy, but I don't. Can you ask your obstetrician? All the best of luck to you!

if the either parent has it, the child has a chance of developing it. it just depends on the child's surroundings when they grow up. a child's mind is so fragile. one word can warp their perception of life.

my grandma was very strike with her 5 kids. my mother was the baby of the 5, and my grandma was very verbally abusive to my mom, but she didn't know that she was abusive until my mom was diagnosed with schizophrenia 2 years ago. my mom told my grandma that all the hurtful words she said to her, like she wished she had an abortion, had scarred her mind & emotions.

my mom loves me, & she did her very best to not let me end up like her. though mother's can't protect you from everything....i was a quiet & submissive, but that didn't keep me away from bullies. they never hit me, but the things they said hurt me alot & it was hard to get over it.

my psychiatrist & therapist are watching me to see if i develop schizophrenia b/c i've been diagnosed with bipolar, psychosis, obsessive-compulsive, attention-deficient, and generalized anxiety...i'm only 18. yes, it is possible to have all of those at my age. i'm medicated, i go to therapy sessions, and i have a great support system that includes my parents, brother, boyfriend, & friends. i'm living a pretty good life.
