    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? ok so im posting to get some information. my brother who is now almost 25 years old i believe needs help but my mom is to naive. It wasnt always like this i remember him being intelligent and being able to hold a conversation, until he started using meth. He is now meth free it has been a few years since he has last used but now he is constantly moving everywhere think people are talking "crap" about him, he thinks pictures can talk to him and he talks and answers his own questions or thoughts on a regular basis, lately he has been throwing fits for nothing and will start destroying things. Im not sure what is going on with him but if anyone has any ideas so i can possibly give the info to my mom so he can get help.

My theory is that drug use is a way to self-medicate, that the drug does not cause but only triggers a psychotic break.

It sounds like your brother is suffering--Are there any mobile crisis units in your town? If not, can you call your local city hospital (Or the hospital where your brother has insurance coverage) and ask them what you should do?

I remember when I was having similar trouble to your brother, but not drug-related, no one was able to help me in my family because they just had no idea what to do. Ironically, I knew something was wrong, but I was too ill to call the hospital.

I think if I had gotten to the hospital sooner that it's possible my illness wouldn't have gotten so severe.

Call the hospital and tell them what's going on with your brother.

If your mom does not intend to to find help for your brother, maybe it's time to take action yourself. Unfortunately, many people who have family with a mental illness do not want to admit there is a problem. I have several aunts and uncles who don't believe my mom has a problem. Please, don't wait 'til his condition worsens, take it upon yourself to get help now. If he does not have insurance, you may have to ask a local clinic where the best place to help your brother would be. Some towns or cities provide low income clinics, which may offer prescriptions with discounts. Good luck and Bless you.
