I have already been on risperdal. abilify and now zyrexa. My delustions just won't go away. I have schizoaffective disorder, bipolar subtype. I just don't know what my psychiatrist is going to try next when I tell him zyprexa has not gotten rid of my delusion. Does anyone have comments on getting rid of delusions.
Nero_sin17 responded:
I have been living with schizophrenia since i was about 12. I've been on and off of meds because they just dont work for me. Honestly the best I can tell you is if your having hallucinations or delusions you must seperate them from reality. try looking for something and determine it as real. Once you can seperate the two relax your mind and focus on the task at hand. Meditation helps for me. Things like this take time
larsstarscanary responded:
I think Nero_sin17 has the same approach that I do: A reality check. If my thoughts are out of line with reality (I look hard to compare), then I get myself grounded again.

Also, I spend more time with others than I spend alone.

Sometimes I become firghtened that my thinking isn't right. That's the first sign. Then I try very hard to focus on the here and now and try to convince myself that those paranoid thoughts are not real.

Hi. I'm a schizoaffective, depressive subtype. I'll be honest, I can't help you get rid of them, but I can tell you my strategy for dealing with them.

Take a second. Try to think it through. Try to find a logical reason as to why your delusion isn't true. And if it's really bad or really convincing, find someone you trust to help you confirm.

For example, my most common delusion is that I am being persecuted by a particular organization. I sometimes am so convinced of this that I won't leave my home. When this happens I try to come up with logical reasons that they aren't going to kill me, even sometimes coming up with ones that fit in with the delusions. And on the really bad days, I just don't leave the house without my wife and her constant reassurance.

Just take your time and try to think through it. And don't expect to be able to do it right away. It took me five years to be able to think through my delusions.

I've good news and bad news. The good news is I was precribed a drug which wiped all all of my delusions (as best I can remember), the bad news is the name of the medication is clozaril.
