It's been suggested that we leave a space between the start of a post and the triggering part.

Write something innocuous in the first line. then leave some spaces between in and the subject matter. this should take care of accidentally triggering someone.

[TRIGGER] Trigger ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------

I cut today. And it didn't bother me. What is so wrong about cutting? I'm not hurting anyone else. I'm having a hard time understanding why cutting bothers people so much. My skin. My razor blade. Can someone explain why I really shouldn't do it?

[TRIGGER] cutting is a sign of an underlying problem that needs to be dealt with.

Kate_Te replied to slik_kitty's response:
[TRIGGER] cutting is a negative coping mechanism. you cut to deal with whatever is going on in your life. If you are like most people, you cut to feel something. There are better ways to deal with the pain.

The actual cutting can lead to infection, serious injury if you cut too deep or hit an artery or a ligament, and the scars that you'll have to explain the rest of your life.

A therapist can help you figure out why you are cutting and how to best stop.

(Trigger) I am new to this community and I do agree with Kate_Te in that for me - I cut to feel something and/or to punish myself. I know it is harmful, but sometimes I get so angry and numb at the same time its 'helps' to feel the pain . I know it does not really help as I have almost cut too deep and do have many noticeable scars.

I have been seeing a therapist for almost 6 years and they have helped me deal with a lot of things that have happened in my life. They have helped calm the need to cut as often as I use to ( I have also hurt myself in other ways when I do something stupid and get mad at myself - I feel I need (or deserve) to feel pain).

An_483, I hope you will consider a therapist, counselor, psychiatrist, any outside help that will help you find out why it is you cut yourself.

Take care of yourself and let us know how things are going for you.
