Write something innocuous in the first line. then leave some spaces between in and the subject matter. this should take care of accidentally triggering someone.

How and Why to Report a Post
OT - SI board weight loss thred

DOGDANCING_TCOS posted:
Lets support each other and bounce ideas off one another.

Could be a triggery thred for disordered eating, so use caution reading along.

Height weight:

I am 5' 6" and weight 180 pounds. I need to healthy loose 50 pounds. That seem unreachable at this point so I am setting a REASONABLE goal for myself. I want to loose 10 pounds.

Goal weight: 170 - once there I will set a lower one.

Factors that make weight loss difficult:

Graves disease, hypothyroid due to radiation treatment, spinal arthritis, perimenopausal, age, medication side effects, horrible diet/use food for comfort. exercise can be painful/used to extreme to hurt myself. Pelvic surgery with metal hardware still in my pelvis. I use pepsi to boost my energy level since it is usually zero.

Exercise I like to do/can do:

breath? I like to dance even though I really REALLY stink at it. Shoot hoops, walk, swim, yoga/sorta martial art/hula made up combo of body stretches. Yard work.

Strengths/weaknesses: can do it, but lazy - would be easier with a work out buddy.

Trouble spot:

eating. I am prone to binge eating of sugary stuff pre-period. Damn hormones. (they really should be called hellmones)

I keep the house with healthy stuff for diabetic hubby and growing kids, but I am vulnerable to going shopping and getting crap to eat to stuff in the emotions/sooth the wounds inside.

Does anyone have any healthy sweet snack ideas they wouldn't mind sharing? I limit highfructosecornsyrup in my diet. so nothing junky in that direction.

I am working on portion control, with all of my family and we do good for the most part.

For me my two biggest challenges is getting up and doing something and the sugar binge eating.

I have a work on DVD but need a kick to get me to do it. My pain levels make me scared to do it, even though I know that after a few days I will feel better.

What would help me is someone to bug me and ask me did I work out for 15 min today.

Reason for wanting this:

So I can take care of me. I don't want to do this for others, I want to get healthy for me. I obviously have a life time history of abusing this body. Its not my enemy and I should honor and respect it.

Peace be the journey

Paja

FRAN (JAN KEARNEY)
Height weight: 5'10' 270 LBS. UGH! I HAVE NEVER WEIGHED THIS MUCH IN MY LIFE

Goal weight: Factors that make weight loss difficult:
MAJOR KNEE PROBLEMS INCLUDING OSTEOARTHRITIS, NECK PROBLEM (WILL GET WORSE AS I AGE BUT TEMPORARY NOW) EVEN WHEN I HAVE KNEE REPLACEMENTS I WILL ALWAYS HAVE PAIN IS WHAT THE ORTHOPEDIST SAID. I HAVE LOW THYROID THAT I'M TREATED FOR BUT BECAUSE OF THAT OFTEN GOING HAYWIRE I FIGHT EXHAUSTIOIN BETWEEN THAT AND THE MEDS I'M ON......SO I'M WITH YOU PAJA DIET COKE FOR ME *BURP* O EXCUSE ME. I ALSO HAVE A BAD BACK AND CAN'T DO THE PT FOR IT RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I GET TERRIBLE CRAMPING IN MY LEGS WHEN I TRY TO DO THE EXERCISES. AND THEN TIME AND LACK OF MOTIVATION CAN BE BAD COUPLED WITH THE DEPRESSION AND ITS HARD TO MOVE. I CANNOT DO MUCH LAND EXERCISES SO I HAVE TO GO TO THE POOL AND ITS VERY TIRING AND A LONG BLOCK OF TIME.
.

Exercise I like to do/can do: I LIKE YOGA AND I LIKE THE WARM WATER POOLS.

Trouble spot: TIMES WHEN I CAN GET TO POOL WHEN ITS NOT JAMMED PACKED WITH KIDS SO I CAN GET A CABANA THAT IS FREE AND MOMS AREN'T IN WITH KIDS AND OR HANDICAPPED GROUPS. ALSO TIME CONSTRAINT HOPEFULLY WILL GO AWAY ONCE I GET MY NEW HIREE COMPLETELY TRAINED. CAN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING BUT SOME LIGHT P.T. FOR NECK AND STRETCHING RIGHT NOW. I AM ADDICTED TO SUGAR. I EAT JUNK FOR BREAKFAST LIKE BISCOTTI. DINNER I EAT TO MUCH OF SO I NEED TO WATCH PORTION CONTROL AND EAT MORE VEGGIES. I USUALLY DO OK ON FRUIT. YOGURT WITH FRUIT IN IT WITH A LITTLE LOW CAL GRANOLA MAKES A GREAT SWEET TREAT!

Reason for wanting this:

I NEED TO GET RID OF MY PAIN AS MUCH AS I CAN AND WITH MY KNEES AND NOW FEET AND BACK ITS KILLING ME OFF. I ALSO WANT TO LOOK THINNER BECAUSE IT WILL HELP MY SELF ESTEEM TREMENDOUSLY. THANKS PAJA FOR STARTING THIS..............NEXT???

Fran you face book? or anyone else? I think it would be helpful if someone asked me weekdays on FB if I did my work out. At least until I get into a routine.

I really need to get up 15 min earlier and get moving, but dang it I like sleeping in and spooning with my hubby, too bad that doesn't burn calories.

Thats interesting that you are taller than me. I have always pictured me to be the tallest of us. Caprice/OTW/LLT about 5' 2" and you a little shorter or same height as me. Isnt that weird?

Maybe I can stock the fridge with frozen fruit to help with the sugar cravings. That would be a better choice.

You know you can do excersies sitting at your desk. Tensing and relaxing muscle groups. This will help get you connected with your body also. It is an anti-dissociating tool too. helps me to keep teh blood flowing for long computer sessions.

This is a good idea for so many reasons.

I'm not going to share my weight but I will share my height... 5'1" which means every bit of extra weight shows. I

Obstacles: Fibromyalgia pain and fatigue for 20 years making exercising difficult and slowing my metabolism, severe sciatica for two years impacting back, leg and foot, medications which increase weight and appetite. And, frankly, just being REALLY busy with work, with relationships with family and friends and trying to get as much rest as I can in between. Also, allergies: can't go swimming because of the chlorine and my healthy food choices are very limited because of severe food allergies.

Why: To feel better about myself but mostly to ease at least the sciatica. I have lost 31 pounds in the past year through a lot of effort and commitment to mindful eating and light regular exercise to an aerobics video I like and short walks. That's slow but at least I'm 31 pounds down from where I was a year ago. I'm hoping to lose another 5-10 by the end of this year, maybe another 15-20 the following year. I'm trying to be very reasonable in my goals and remind myself that even if I don't lose any more, that's okay; I'm still better off than I was. AND it HAS helped with the sciatica; it's still there but it's better and I've regained some mobility. It's also really helped with my hypertension.

I'm going to share my inspiration: my younger son who finally got treated for sleep apnea and then committed to his own health once he wasn't exhausted all the time. In the past two years, this young man who began putting on weight in his early teens, has lost 115 pounds all through his own efforts. He's amazing and I figured if he could do it, I could as well. (My older son has always been lean and naturally into exercise and eating healthy so I couldn't relate to him in this regard.)

I look forward to hearing how you two (and anyone else who may join in) does with this.

my game plan for the day. short version since my beautiful post was gobbled up.

exercise:

still in pain from accident. Can manange mindful stretching and walking for 15 min.

Diet:

actually ate breakfast that was harder then I thought it would be.

Going for theraputic Chinese food for lunch, will eat 1/2 and the rest for dinner.

Will only pack 2 cans of soda for the loooong night at work. Will bring water.

Spiritual/mental:

Will hang new signs about the house to visually cue me (all of me's what we are doing, D.I.D plays a part in this, if all of me are not on board this will fail.)

a gentle reminder on the cupboard. "Its easier to take it off, by not putting it in, in the first place."

Support:

Will encourage myself by remembering this isn't a war with my body, its a cooppertive adventure.

Think about it, Fran... less weight means less pressure on the spine/disks which is usually the cause of sciatica (trapped nerve). AND if you exercise your core, you strengthen the core muscles which better supports the back. This (weight loss and careful leg exercises) could also help your knees as well, the ones you have now and recovery from any replacement.

IM NOT SURE WHAT CORE EXERCISES ARE EXCEPT MY BACK EXERCISES WHICH I CANNOT DO ANYMORE EXCEPT PELVIC TILTS BECAUSE EVERYTIME I TRY TO DO THEM I END UP GETTING PAIN IN THE BACK OF MY LEG SCIATICA!

IM FIGHTING A LOOSING BATTLE. I JUST FEEL LIKE THROWING IN THE TOWEL.............

I THINK I JUST HAD BETTER GIVE OTHERS ADVICE AND SIT ON THE SIDE LINES. AFTER GETTING DIZZY AT DOCS OFFICE TODAY I'M JUST NOT GOING TO DOCS ANYMORE. I'M SICK OF SPENDING WHAT WE EARN ON DOCTORS.

I'M SO EXHUASTED I CAN HARDLY STAY AWAKE AND MY HOUSE IS MESSY. GOTTA GET IT CLEANED UP BEFORE HUBBY GETS HOME. UGH

Core = stomach and back muscles. There are very easy exercises you can do to strengthen those without doing floor work. Start with simple things like getting used to holding your stomach in, or tightening it and releasing, tightening and releasing.

I can't do pelvic tilts either. I think you may be trying to do things which are not possible for you right now. Look around online for exercises that one can do when there are various health issues.

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is better health. Keep your expectations of yourself realistic, Fran.
