Any tips on dealing with depression during pregnancy?

SweetSurreal posted:

I'm a first time mom to be, due on Sept 28th, looking forward to having a little girl. While the pregnancy so far has been far more blessed than I could have ever hoped, the situation with the father has been mentally detrimental enough that I've just had to get away from it completely. Any tips on cheering up or staying that way despite the hormones?

I'm sorry you're having a difficult time. I remember when I had to leave my (now ex-) husband for mental and physical safety, I had trouble at first keeping my spirits up. My biggest help was prayer and spending time with friends. (All the friends were new friends. I didn't have any during the marriage) Keeping myself occupied with other people who were positive and friendly helped a lot!!!

Congratulations on your baby girl! Sorry you are going through a difficult time, pregnancy hormones complicate it more I am sure. I think the advice from pp was excellant staying around positive/friendly people will defiantly help. Staying busy also helps, with LO on the way there are all kinds of things to be done to get ready for her. If your pretty well caught up maybe you can learn a new skill or research something in the library that will help you with parenting. I am trying to learn to crochet so I can make LO a baby blanket. I know with your EDD around the corner you probably just wanna stay in bed as much as possible...just be careful and don't let yourself get too down. Movies and books may help keep your mind occupied while your resting. Keep in touch and let us know how you are.
