Can the HPV vaccine give a false positive for a Herpes test?

My girlfriend tested positive for both type1 and 2 of herpes today, we both got tested before our relationship and have only been with each other, we were both negative in the beginning so we're pretty lost as to how she got a positive result. I immediately went to my doctor to get tested as well and during the discussion my doctor mentioned that if she had a HPV vaccine, it could throw a false positive result on her herpes test (which would be great news for us).

I'm now waiting for my results and am a bit nervous, but when we went back to her doctor and asked the same question regarding the possibility of a false positive he said he had never heard of such a thing before.

I did some research online and did find a FEW people suggesting that my doctor could be right, but nothing solid. Does anyone here have any insight?

Great appreciated. Thank you

Oh sorry I forgot to include that yes she did get the HPV vaccine.

Also, just figured I'd ask but if we've been together for over a year and having sex on a regular basis, what are my chances of having the disease?

Herpes takes 3 months from the initial infection for the antibodies to build up and be detectable in a blood test. She may have had HSV for a few weeks or couple (2) of months when you initially tested and it would not show up on the test. However, keep in mind that most STD testing does not automatically include herpes, you usually have to specifically ask for it. There is a chance that you were not tested for herpes prior to sex. Also, there could be an issue with the type of blood test used, the IGG type specific and the western blot are the most accurate. If you had the IGM, I suggest getting retested with the IGG.

No the HPV vaccine will not give you a false positive for herpes. They are two completey separate virus'
