Pain with using Spermicide

Hello, My concern has to deal with the use of spermicide gels and the affect on the vaginal environment. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year, and during our sexual experiences we have often used products with spermicide. After using spermicide gel (vaginal insert), I noticed that I developed a major sensitivity to it. The spermicide gel burned and it made it impossible for me to urinate even up to 5 hours after use, without me being in pain. About 8-10 days ago, we used condoms that included spermicide ingredient and used this brand multiple times for about six acts of intercourse. After this experience, it was apparent that I have an allergy to the spermicide. Here were my symptoms: - Very dark pink and red coloring to the inside of my vagina - vaginal swelling - soreness which lasted about 4 days I told my boyfriend after this experience that we can no longer use these condoms. So, we have switched to condoms with regular lubricant. Last night we were having intercourse, and I was experiencing a lot of pain and pressure. The pressure was enough to ask him to stop. My boyfriend told me that it felt like the inside of me was still inflamed and swollen. Could the persistant spermicide use kill all of the natural good bacteria in my vagina? Is there anything you suggest to reduce swelling and pain during intercourse? I have never used lubricant gels as I have never felt the need to before. Thank you.

Allergies to spermicide are very, very common. The only thing I can suggest is that you stop having sex until all of the inflammation dies down. Like for many things, time is the best healer.
There's nothing inherently dirty about sex, but if you try real hard and use your imagination you can overcome that.
