Husband is a sex addict...
needsgoodadvice posted:
He fits all of the signs and has recently admitted that he is a sex addict. We are working on finding a therapist in our area but I wanted to know if there is anything I can do as his wife to help him stay focused and help him be successful in this... He has admitted that he has a problem several times in the last year or so but has never been serious about getting help until now. This is our Last chance at saving this marriage!! I read about setting boundaries and creating a plan, I read those are important tools in recovery but I can't find an example or details as to what they should include. I'd like to have some kind of system in place ASAP. Does anyone know how this all works? Thanks in advance for any info!

FCL responded:
We can't really help you if you don't tell us in what way he is considered to be a "sex addict". What kind of things have led to this "diagnosis"?

go to she has E-books, including a book on setting boundaries, recovery, etc.

I agree with FCL. How did you arrive at this conclusion? It is a dangerous assumption for anyone except a professional to diagnose such a condition. Frequently with mismatched libidos, the one with the lesser drive may think the one with the greater drive is an addict. Rarely is this true. Find a pro to diagnose weather or not he is an addict.
SydnyG replied to dfgbull;'s response:
Your summation of the "sexual addict" response was a point. This syndrome does not necessarily mean mismatched libidos, instead she is speaking of sexual encounters outside of marriage. A sexual addict strives to conquer whatever and whenever a female comes his way. He will find a female, perform the sexual act, and leave. It is an act of possession, and a trance-like performance. Sexual addiction, like every other addiction.....alcoholism, gambling, masturbation, etc., all is affected by a specific part of the brain that addictions are manifested from. A glitch in this area of the brain allows the actions of addictions to take place. Indeed, it is a tough road for professional help to quell this tendency, and sometimes there is no hope unless certain drugs are used. But again, drug abuse is an addiction, so the circle widens as to what is the best way to conguer this monster.

just go with the flow.

"just go with the flow"?? Being a sex addict is a very serious condition that can wreck havoc on someone's life and marriage....if he was having a heart problems would you say the same thing? Didn't think so.
