Colposcopy Result

Melot5556 posted:
I recently had colposcopy/biopsy, which showed a low-grade, pre-cancer condition, according to my gynecologist. She adviced me to stay healthy, take Vit D (2000) and Vit C (500) and go back in 6 months for another colposcopy/biopsy procedure. When I asked her why she can't just remove the abnormal cells, she explained that it's not what is normally done. She said that if during my 6th month colposcopy/biopsy procedure it shows that the cells have worsened, that would be when she will recommend removal.

This means that for the next 6 months I will worry and lose sleep over this condition, and I don't think I will be able to stand the 6-month wait! Why can't I just have the cells removed?

If these cells are near the surface of the cervix, the colopscopy/biopsy itself will often remove them.

If they are deeper removing them will leave a thinner cervix which can cause issues with early labor should you become pregnant in the future.

Many, many women have these abnormal cells and often these clear up without any further intervention by the six month mark. Remember that like all cells in the body, new cells in this area are constantly being made to replace the current ones.

Hi Gail,

Thanks for your response; it's very helpful in alleviating my concerns. If you don't mind, I have a follow-up question: Since I am post-menopausal, I am not really concerned about the thinning of my cervix, if all it will cause is early labor. Would it then make sense for me not to wait out the 6-month period and have the abnormal cells removed now? I have a strong family history of all types of cancer, and I worry about what will develop in 6 months.

I am also scheduled to see another gyn for a second opinion.

Thanks again -
