My daughters new boyfriend says he was born with gh from his mother. He says his symptoms are mild with no outbreaks just itching. I did not know people were born with gh I thought it was sexually transmitted. I thought if you were born with herpes it was really bad is that not the case? What if they had children?

It is possible for the mother who is infected with HSV (typically HSV2 which tends to be located in the genitals) to pass this virus on to the baby during the birthing process. As the baby passes through the vaginal canal they can come in contact with the virus.

The incidence of outbreaks varies among individuals. You may be mistaking HIV for HSV (herpes) in terms of how "bad" this is for the child.

If your daughter and her boyfriend have children, the risk to any child would be dependent on whether the boyfriend had passed this virus onto your daughter and infected her during unprotected intercourse.
