HPV test positive

I just turned 51. I have been married for 27 years and all my pap tests have been normal. I noticed some vaginal changes several yeasr ago and my doctor told me that I had ben exposed to herpes but didn't have it. Then last month after missing my Pap test for several years I had my Pap test and my ob/gyn said he wanted to also do the HPV test. I said yes. Several weeks later I got the call from his office that my Pap is normal but the HPV test was positive and that I need to make sure to get my Pap test every year now as I am st risk for ecervical cancer. I am devastated! I have never had sex outside our marriage but my husband obviously has. I have not confronyed him about it yet as he is working overseas and will not be home until November. After doing some reading, I saw where several women with my diagnosnis were then given a colopsy (?) test and came back within 6 months for another Pap test. Should I call my doctor back and ask for further tesing now or am I safe to wait another year?

A colposcopy is typically done when the Pap test comes back as "abnormal", not simply when someone has been found to be HPV positive. Your Pap test was normal.
