HSV1 and kissing

EH4AR posted:
I was recently diagnosed with HSV1 in the genital area. I am educating myself by reading books and web sites. I have read that the virus will stay where it is contracted unless spread to another area by contact. I understand this as the virus will not travel in my body from the genital area up through my body to the mouth. I had my first genital outbreak and have never any sores on my mouth. I haven't read anything anywhere about kissing. Is it safe to kiss someone if my HSV1 is in the genital area or should that be avoided also?
