    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

    Transmitting HSV 1

I have tested positive for hsv1 in the past - I actually remember cold sores as a kid on my mouth as well. Anyway, if I transmitted it to my wife at some point is it possible for her to transmit it to me as genital herpes through oral sex. I know I can transmit it to her through oral sex but was wondering since it was "my infection" could it be transmitted back to me if I had infected her??

Your body has had plenty of time to build up antibodies to HSVI, so you cannot be re-infected in a different location.

Thank you. Out of curiosity how long can someone go before their fist outbreak? I know you may never have one but if they did, how long can past from exposure?

Some infected people never get a break out, that's why I can't place a time line on it. For some it's 3-5 days or even years after initial infection, and as mentioned above, some never do.
