Genital HSV1
An_255042 posted:
So about two months ago I had what I thought was a hemorrhoid that wouldn't go away, so I went to a doctor. He did a test and I found out that it was actually genital HSV 1. He told me that outbreaks usually happen about 2 days to 2 weeks after infection, and asked if I had been sexually active during that time period. I had been with one person (he was just my friend at the time, turned into my boyfriend, and now we decided we are better as just friends). Anyways, the doctor said that it was probably from him (I told him that I never had a history/outbreak of cold sores). I was too embarrassed to talk about it though until two weeks ago. I had my first cold sore on the corner of my mouth. My ex and I were at the grocery store and I bought some medication for it. I asked him if he ever got them, which he denied. Is it possible that he was telling the truth? Could he just not know that he does have it? What if he had been with other girls at the time when I first contracted HSV 1 (which is possible, we weren't exclusive at that point)?

Most adults carry this virus orally and many are unaware of this, never having had an outbreak. So yes, it is certainly possible said friend/boyfriend may have been telling you the truth.
