Syphilis - Post Treatment
An_255222 posted:
My GF was tested for VDRL as part of a general checkup and found to be positive for syphilis. We're puzzled as to how she got it, since we've been together for a year(we're both in a committed relationship, with no other partners - trust me). She has had no symptoms and is taking Doxycilin for two weeks, a common treatment. I'm puzzled as to how she got it and assuming she gets tested post-treamtent and the rsults are negative, should I get tested?

There is always a chance you could have gotten it from her as well. Go and get tested and see if you do or do not have it. If you do then get treatment at the same time she is getting treatment and then make sure that either of you do not have it before you start back to sex. I am not familiar with this STI but she could have had it before you started being involved with her and she just had no symptoms and still had it till she got tested. If she had not gotten tested then the two of you still would not know she had it.

Yes, you should get tested.

From WebMD:

Latent syphilis. This is where the infection lies dormant (inactive) without causing symptoms.

So it's possible she or you had it and didn't know.
