first get your partner tested and yes it's possible that your partner does not have it.My ex husband never got h1 from me after 17 yrs granted we didn't have much sex . After the test you need to probably take valtrex it stops the spreading significantly just to be safe for your partner and depending on if you have 1 or 2 you can take further measures to protect your uninfected partner.

Do you KNOW that your partner does not have HSV? Did you find out you had it before you began dating this person? If not, you could have gotten this from your partner. I would make sure you are certain of both of your statuses and go from there. If contracting HSV is not a concern for your partner, than unprotected sex is not an issue. Condoms and Valtrex are also very effective.

I had std testing done in 2005 and it came back positive for hsv-1 oral....but back then the doc sd it was nothing to really worry about. I was with my boyfriend back then. I would assume if the doc tested for herpes they would test for both types right? i don't know if my partner has hsv or not..he recently joined the army (april of 09)..wouldnt he have been tested for stds including herpes??
