Can Behcet's and herpes get mis-diagnosed for one other.

I am a 23yr old female. About two years ago I got a genital rash which was itchy and painful. I went to the doctor and every OBGYN I went to said it did not look like herpes. I was tested and it tested negative twice. Later that year in the spring I had severe swelling and pain in my hands and wrists. That summer I was diagnosed with RA. The rashes continued. I went and got tested for what must have been my thrid time and I was positive. However, my doctor believe it was a false/positive. I tested again and it was still positive. I went on to see an infectious diease specialist and he reviewed the tests and also concluded it was a false/positive. He did not believe I had herpes. So, then I was sent to a dermatologist. She gave it one look and and said yup it is Herpes. (I was shocked)
I still feel that the pain in my joints and the genital rash are related. What is the likelyhood that I may have been mis-diagnosed and have bechet'syydrome?

if you can get your last herpes igg blood test results to post here, Terri or I can help you more. Just post the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 5.4 and hsv2 igg 2.3 or whatever they are and we can help you more with this.

Have you been following up with a rheumatologist for your issues?

Okay I will try and get my blood test numbers. Thank you for replying to my post. Yes, I do have a rheumatologist. I have just started on methotrexate . I have been taking it for about a month and not much difference. I have been told to increase my dose.

I just received a positive test result for HSV 2. I requested my lab results and they read as such:
HSV 2 IGG Antibodies 4.86
Reference range < 0.90 Index

What does this mean? I have never had any symtons until recently when I felt like I was coming down with a Yeast infection prior to my menstrual cycle and following taking antibiotics. I was diagnosed with BV not long ago and prescribed antibiotics. The only sympton I have had is the feeling of a yeast infection and terrible achiness in my lower back. when I was seen at the Dr they stated that there was blood in my urine but there was no mention of a cause for that.

your hsv2 igg's are really low positive and need confirmed with further testing. A herpes WB is the best test for this. If your provider uses quest labs it's test #34534.

Thank you for replying. So the WB test will confirm my herpes? Can you explain the igg's and igm's. Mine have gone down and up. Do they go low when one is not having an outbreak? Should I wait to be test when I am having an outbreak? SO, is it possible I could have Behcet's?

Also, I wanted to know in your opinion is it better to go to a OBGYN or a dermatologist for herpes. I have been to both for this issue.

your regular provider is fine at this point for your herpes. they can order up the herpes WB for you to confirm your status.

the changes in your hsv2 igg don't really have any meaning.

you could have bechet's or any number of things going on. continuing to work with your gyn when you have symptoms is the best course of action at this point.

Hi I was hoping you could help me, About 4 weeks ago I had protected sex (condom) with a friend he had no signs of any STD or cold sore on his lip or any ulcer in his genitals , there was oral sex in that opportunity.
3 weeks later I had 2 ulcer like bumps in my vagina they did not burst, there was no liquid or anything like that and there was no ulcer created, there was little to none itching, no pain in when I went to the restroom nothing, I found them on a Sunday 4 days later the "bumps" were gone, a couple of days after I found those to bumps I had 1 ulcer in my genital labia this one did pain a bit if I touched it when cleaning up or showering with very hot water, I also noticed there was some swelling on my lymph nodes

I went to my Gyn and asked her to take a look at them and she said "this looks like herpes, what is weird is that you do not show any symptoms"
She sent me some blood tests and my HSV2 tests (ELISA) came out positive
- IgG 4.8
- IgM Positive

My friend tested as well and he came out negative and he is the only person I've slept with in one year

At this point from all I've read I think I'm positive for herpes, now my question is, is there any chance that I'm being misdiagnosed? I had no symptoms and although I know some herpes carriers are asymptomatic and well that my test results are positive, I'm struggling with the idea of having herpes and this being a right diagnose.. I guess my questions are:
1 - Can IgG be shown on a ELISA test because my body is fighting another disease? (fungus, syphilis, chlamydia etc.)
2 - If I got a test when I have no symptoms or outbreak, would my IgG and IgM results still be positive?
3- How much time would you suggest before I get another test to double check my first test results?
4- If I had herpes 1 in my genitals(crossover) and I took an HSV2 test would it come out positive still? Even if the real virus was HHSV1?

I am not a medical professional but have learned a lot on this website and from others who are no longer on this site. You had some symptoms and there must have ben something that looked like Herpes as your GYN thought it was herpes. Just because you did not have a great big ob that does not mean you do not have herpes. The IgG blood test is designed to check for HSV 1 & 2. That is all it checks for. So the 4.8 IgG blood test does confirm you have herpes. You could get tested again but I think your GYn would tell you it would be a waste of money. What did your GYN say? Do she tell you that you have HSV 2? if you did not talk to her after you got your results then give the office a call and ask the GYN what your status is? The GYN would tell you you are positive for HSV 2. HSV 1 will not come back as HSV 2 or visa ferssa. You do not have to have ob's to test positive for either type of herpes. You are positive for HSV 2 and you could test again but most tests if they get over 5.0 will just say grater than 5.0 and nothing more. See my signature line and read up on herpes as per the info in it. You know that you can shed when you do not have any ob's and you need tell any new partners about your status.
Abe ...I am not a medical professional. Read the Herpes Handbook, Watch the Video and Terri Warren's book is availible umder the Heading Herpes at http://www.westoverheights.com/

PreciousLove 123,
My case is so similar !
I had pain in my fingers and my thrombocytes were low. So I went to a rheumatologist and I discovered I have some auto imunne disease, but he still doesn't know exactly what it is. However, about 1 year ago, I started having genital rashings. I went to 3 obgyn and they also said it was herpes with absolutely sure. I did the blood test 3 times and it was negative.
I am thinking if it is Beh?et disease too....
