In the past I've met most of the guys I went out with either because they lived near me or through friends. While this has it's advantages, it can also have drawbacks. Still, expanding your social circle is probably the best way to meet other people in casual settings, ie: getting to know someone a little first before going on a date.

I've read meetup.com is a way to meet singles in your area in a group setting. I haven't tried that yet.

Sports bars are an obvious place to meet men. Auto/boat/RV shows? Book clubs, dance studios may be a good place to meet women depending on your age.

well i met my hubbie in a web site that my phone had is call air g and most of the guys that i met before my hubbie was in the internet in chat rooms. i dated a guy for 4 yrs that i met on a chat, for me the web sites worked cause i found me a good husband we're going on 15 mo. woohoo!!!!!
