    Surgery Scars

Hello. I had a collapsed lung almost 3 months ago. They had to perform major surgery and give me a chest tube. I have three incisions. They are all closed. Back in March, I asked my Dr. if I should put anything on them to help them heal or fade better. He told me NOT to put anything on them at all. I feel like I need to put something on them to heal and fade better instead of doing nothing. Can you please help? What do you think?
    Mohiba K Tareen, MD responded:
    Dear Cowboy,

I hope that you are feeling better.

Scientific research has shown that the most effective at-home treatment for scars is with silicone sheets. You simply cut a little piece of the sheet (like a banadage) and place it over the scar. The silicone hydrates and rejuvenates the scar.

There are injections (for keloids) and laser treatments that you can do at your dermatologist's office as well.

    I hope that helps
