Shedding Hair and Weight Loss?

At the beginning of the year, I started a diet which resulted in me losing about 15 pounds over the course of about 4 months. About mid-March (3 and a half months into the diet), my hair started shedding to the point that my bathroom drains would clog every time I washed my hair. I went to my dermatologist and she said that my hair was just in a shedding phase and that it would stop on its own after a few months. It is now August and my hair is still shedding the same amount as when it started. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how long did you hair shed and what did you do to help stop it.

Hair loss is an indicator of malnutrition or some kind of deficiency in the body. Which is possible when starting a new diet.
Take vitamin E. What kind of diet are you on?

Hi sannas252 and Welcome!

First of all - Congratulations on your weight loss!

This slideshow, Women's Hair Loss: Thinning Hair Causes and Solutions, talks about noticing hair loss after losing weight and if you have a diet low in protein or too high in vitamin A.

Our Hair Loss Health Center offers much more information, causes and solutions.

Hope this is helpful,
