    Stretch Marks... YUCK!
    everydayizagift posted:
I have marks from being on prednisone... some are older and some are new. They are purple and ugly. What product(s) are effective for lightening stretch marks and even making the texture of the skin normal again?
    David A Colbert, MD responded:
    Dear everydayizagift,

Stretch marks, medically referred to as "striae," commonly develop after prednisone treatment. The only topical products that have scientifically proven to have any real benefit are presciption retinoids - such as Retin-A or Tazorac. Unfortunately, even the topical retinoids only improve the appearance of the stretch marks from 1-5% and also can be irritating.

The best treatment for stretch marks are lasers. For red or purple stretch marks we use a pulse-dye laser. For white stretch marks, a fractionated laser is recommended.
