    Reduce Deep Acne Scars
    Susan Evans, MD posted:
A minimally invasive and exceptionally effective treatment to reduce acne scars is microdermabrasion. This is a manual exfoliation that removes the outer layers of dead skin to stimulate new cell growth. This process removes deep acne scarring and should be done in a series of 4 to 6 treatments.

This comment is really misleading for patients. Particularly, when saying "exceptionally effective" or " removes deep acne scarring" looks more like an advertisement than a scientific expert's comment. Honestly, during my practice of treating hundreds of patients with acne scars, I have never seen a patient, even with moderate scars who benefit significantly from microdermabrasion. So, my recommendation for patients is to lower your expectations because it does not do anything more than retinoids.

    Hi jingale,

You may want to repost your question about acne as a new discussion rather than tack on your question to an older tip thread. That way your question can be more easily seen and found.

As well Dr Colbert has recently answered a few questions concerning acne problems so please look through the board for those questions and answers.

The Acne Health Center is also a resource to read more about acne and acne treatments.

I agree. I have deep acne scars and I was told by my dermatologist and aesthetician that microderm really wouldn't do very much to get rid of them. I've tried retinoids and microderm and even the Pixel laser treatments and have only seen very slight improvement after the laser. What is the basis for saying that microderm is "exceptionally effective" for "removing deep acne scarringn"? Do you have any other suggestions that might be a bit more effective? Because I would really like something to actually work and be worth the expense.
    nnfrank replied to SToosi's response:
yes..i have undergone that treatment too on assuring for 90%improvement by the doc..but to my terror..the ice pick scars turned into small box scars..may b the doc is not experienced..i dint see him again.i dont say that they always become more prominent u can read is nt effective..thanks ST.thats very good to be frank
    stretchyfernia responded:
I guess there isn't any "exceptionally effective treatment" takes time for ANYTHING to work. Scars can be immediately removed but the healing process is longer or you can take the simple route of healing slowly but surely by using creams that could fade scars.

I think the best thing is to visit a beauty salon . It is the best way.

New technology provides laser acne scar removal for both the face and body. Finding ways to erase scars from acne is a common concern for millions of people suffering with acne scars. Acne and scars can range from mild to extremely severe and for many people it can make life very difficult. Fortunately, for those suffering with this problem there are new cutting edge laser treatment solutions that are very effective.
Methods of treatment range from NO surgery options to surgical scarring treatment. NO surgical scarring treatment include creams, chemical peels, skin fillers, and home remedies. Surgical treatment involves laser treatment.
Recently, there have been exciting announcements of new laser treatment capabilities, so when choosing a physician please be sure to inquire about these recent advancements in laser scar removal.
There are different types of acne scars which may require variation in laser treatment depending upon the type of scar.
Generally acne scars fall in to basic categories such as:
"022 Ice Pick Scars...deep and narrow scars
"022 Box Car Scars...usually round or oval scars
"022 Rolling Scars...affected areas have a rolling appearance
"022 Hypertrophic Scars... a raised firm mass of tissue
The cost of laser removal can be challenging if you are on a tight budget. The cost will vary depending upon individual circumstance such as:
    1. doctor fees
    2. per session cost fees
    3. Hospital charges for the procedure.
    4. etc
Laser acne scar removal in india is not usually covered by insurance. If cost is an issue you might want to consider other non surgical treatment for scars including natural remedies and home treatments. The major benefit of laser treatment is its effectiveness and short time to recover.
